Dwayne Hicks:  

One of the most experienced coaches in the CCLA (Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association), Dwayne Hicks comes to Michigan State University after five years at Oakland University and three at Eastern Michigan University. At Oakland, Hicks was able to help an unknown program develop into a nationally ranked, highly touted lacrosse team. This included two national championship appearances and one CCLA Championship. In 2006, Hicks moved from Oakland University to coach Eastern Michigan to help build its program. After three seasons with the Eagles, and helping them become a CCLA (Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association) play-off contender, Hicks accepted the head coaching position at Michigan State University, one of the top programs in the CCLA.

Hicks has been a part of the lacrosse world for more than thirty-five years. Originally from Freeport, Long Island, Hicks distinguished himself in high school as both an outstanding lacrosse player and wrestler. His talents on the lacrosse field helped his high school teams win the Class A Division title during his junior and senior years.

Upon graduation, he attended and played lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame. There, he distinguished himself as a midfielder, defensive midfielder and defenseman. After four years, Hicks graduated with his BFA in Industrial Design with a concentration in automotive and product design.

Hicks was then selected to be one of six Americans hired to play and coach in the England Lacrosse Union. In his two seasons with the Timperley Rebels, he led his team to the National Championships in both years. He was also given the opportunity to coach several members of Team England in preparation for the World Lacrosse Games. After two seasons, Hicks returned to the United States to pursue professional interests but continued to coach, play club lacrosse and referee at both the high school and collegiate levels. Hicks has played for club teams in Chicago, Indianapolis, Cleveland and Detroit.

Other varsity coaching positions include: Freeport High School on Long Island, the University of Notre Dame, St. Joseph’s High School/ South Bend, Indiana, and Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan. Hicks is also the head coach for the Total Lacrosse travel team. This team travel to various summer tournaments and showcases many of the best high school players from the metro Detroit area.

Among his awards, Hicks has been named Coach of the Year on three occasions and is recognized by US Lacrosse, the governing body of all lacrosse in the United States, as one of the top fundamentals coaches in the country.
