Michigan State Looks Forward After BYU Loss
Bush Nets Four in Spartan Loss March 27, 2009 By Max Carrion Novi, MI - The no. 14 Spartans dropped a 16-5 decision to the top ranked Brigham Young University. Sophomore attackman Connor Bush led the Michigan State offense with four goals against a very fast and physical Cougar team. BYU jumped out to an early lead within the first few minutes of the game with a Cougar goal at the 12:50 mark of the first quarter. The Spartans would answer back after a successful clear when senior midfielder Steve Schimpke found Joe Stephanoff who beat his defender and put one past the BYU goaltender. Only a minute would pass before BYU struck again upping the score to 2-1. The Cougars would score three more goals before the end of the first quarter including a controversial last second shot to notch the score at 5-1 heading into the second quarter. |

Spartans Go 1-1 on the Road No. 9 Lindenwood Hands Michigan State First Loss in Nail Biter March 23, 2009 By Max Carrion St. Charles, MO. – Over the weekend the Spartans traveled to Missouri to take on the no. 9 Lindenwood Lions and Texas Tech. Michigan State saw production from sophomore Brian Conway and senior Brian Kegley, but their efforts weren’t enough as the Spartans dropped a 9-7 loss to no. 9 Lindenwood on Friday under the lights at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium. However, the Spartans rallied back the next day in a 16-10 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. |

No. 14 Spartans Cruise Past The Golden Gophers
Nemes Nets Four In Michigan State Victory March 17, 2009 By Max Carrion East Lansing, MI. – After a lackluster first half, the Spartan offense came out full throttle in a 15-3 victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Spartan attack motored over the Golden Gopher defense combining for a total of eight goals on the day. Following an impressive victory of the Colorado Buffaloes the day before, the Spartans were looking for their second victory within 24 hours. Michigan State picked up right where they left off when senior Derek Baynton won the opening faceoff and fed sophomore Patrick Nemes who ripped a shot past Minnesota’s goaltender to put the Spartans up one within the first minute. After several minutes the Spartans struck again when freshman defensemen Wes Binder scooped up a ground ball and hit senior Steven Schimpke who would score putting Michigan State up two. Less than a minute later Nemes would score again on an assist by senior Joe Stephanoff giving the Spartans a 3-0 lead heading into the second quarter. |

No. 15 Spartans Surprise No. 8 Colorado in Home Opener Spartan attack dominates Buffalo defense in 11-3 win
March 15, 2009 By Max Carrion East Lansing, MI. – New head coach Dwayne Hicks earns his first victory as Michigan State head coach in an 11-3 victory over the No. 8 ranked Colorado Buffaloes. The Spartan attack combined for 10 of the 11 MSU goals scored against Colorado. Senior Brian Kegley finished the game with four goals. Sophomores Patrick Nemes and Connor Bush netted three goals apiece, Bush also tallied an assist. The Spartans controlled the action early on with Brian Kegley scoring his first goal putting the Spartans up one in the opening minute of the game. Colorado would battle back three minutes later, balancing the game at one each. Less than half a minute would pass when Patrick Nemes received a pass from freshman Mike Degenhardt to put the Spartans up one with ten minutes left in the first quarter. Nemes would add another goal before time expired upping the Spartans lead to 3-1 at the end of the first quarter. |

Spartans will Start Season with Back-to-Back Home Games March 14, 2009
East Lansing, MI. – The No. 15 ranked Michigan State Spartans will face-off tomorrow at noon against the No. 8 ranked Colorado Buffaloes and Monday, March 16 at 7:00 PM against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Both games will be held at Ralph Young Filed. An interactive map and directions can be found here. Merchandise will be available for purchase before the game and during half time. |
