Silver Lining in 13-11 Loss to Michigan in CCLA Championship

Spartans earn first bid ever to the MCLA National Tournament in Denver, CO.

May 2, 2010

SALINE, MI. - Despite the fire to avenge their 11-8 loss to the University of Michigan just a week prior, the Spartans were unable to defeat the no.1 ranked team in the country and claim the CCLA Championship.  In one of the closest championship games in recent history, the Spartans proved they were as good as any team in the country, holding onto the lead until the middle of the fourth quarter. However, regardless of the heartbreak within the team, the Spartans received some positive news to curb the sour taste in their mouth.

Just a few hours after the loss, head coach Dwayne Hicks received the team’s bid to the MCLA National Tournament in Denver. This achievement will mark the first time the Michigan State Men’s Lacrosse team has ever earned a ticket to the big dance.

No. 13 Spartans Shoot Down no. 7 Oregon In Showdown

Michigan State rallies back against the Ducks after an 0-4 start.

March 23, 2010

EAST LANSING, MI. - A little over a week after the Spartans toppled top ranked Simon Fraser, Michigan State faced another nationally ranked team Monday against the no. 7 Oregon Ducks. After a sloppy start in the first half of the first quarter the Spartans found themselves found down four goals and scrambling to claw back into the game.

Not until the 1:53 mark in the first quarter did the Spartans notch their first score when sophomore attackmen Michael Baily fed sophomore Shane Jay-Garfein in the crease who buried a shot past Oregon goalie Nick Johnston. Michigan State finally appeared to have found an offensive rhythm after spotting the Ducks four goals in the opening quarter.

No. 8 Florida State Pulls Out Win Against  no. 19 Michigan State

Seminoles second half comeback stop Spartans.

February 21, 2010

TALLAHASSEE, FL. - Michigan State suffered their first lost of the 2010 season, falling 8-5 to the no. 8 Florida State Seminoles. After showing promise through the first half of the game, the Spartan offense disappeared in the second half allowing the Seminoles to come back from a 5-3 deficit.

It was a lackluster first quarter with only three goals scored between the Spartans and the Seminoles. Florida State midfielder Josh Eustice notched the first goal of the game at the 12:47 mark. Just over four minutes later junior attackman Patrick Nemes bodies his man to the crease and put the ball past Seminole goalie John Goodrich to tie the game at one. However, the Seminoles would score again with less than three minutes left in the quarter to up the score to 2-1 heading into the second quarter.
